Misha, a young orphan from Chausy, Belarus, says goodbye to his host family in Brockville, Ont. Canada where he stayed six weeks for respite from the radioactive contamination of his homeland. With natural family still living in Belarus, Misha is not adoptable. His fate is to live in the underfunded orphanage until he is 17 when he will be released without a job and no money. Seventeen per cent of orphans commit suicide in Belarus and 35 per cent end up in jail having to resort to theft to stay alive.
